An ever increasing number of sailors rely exclusively on electronic charts for navigation. Several high profile losses in recent years have revealed weaknesses in these charting systems. We will explore how paper and digital charts are made and the implications of this for chart accuracy. Understanding the limits of your charts will make you a better and safer navigator.
